Julie, thank you so much for the wonderful new ideas that I can implement into my teaching practice. The three workshops that I attended were informative and so much fun! The workshops are a must for all ECE teachers!
Our Fendalton Playcentre tamariki just love music!

Throughout my course of study in Play Therapy and Musical Play, I have had some of the most memorable and valuable teaching and learning experiences with the children. I have learnt to facilitate their learning in a way that inspires the children’s inner most confidence and creativity. I am more aware of the children’s emotions and have greater rapport with the children because I have learnt to listen, observe and acknowledge them for who they truly are. Julie and Alex provided an encouraging curriculum that supported my journey in Play Therapy and Musical Play. Our skype meetings made me feel confident, and the professional conversations had were inspiring and motivating. This course is a must do for all professionals who engage in early childhood education!
We recently had Sarah, from Julie Wylie Music come to run a wee music session at my daughter’s second birthday party. Zahara beamed from start to finish at the incredibly engaging songs and activities Sarah had them do. All of her wee friend’s Mums have since come back to me to tell me it made them realise how much their child loved music. I was moved to see how much my daughter loved her music party, and I loved being able to join in with her. I would thoroughly recommend Sarah to anyone in the future. Thank you, from Us.
Thank you for your wonderful presentation at the IRMTNZ conference Julie. I had so many comments about how inspiring your session was.
Thanks so much for all your knowledge, talent and passion you have shared with our team and children inspiring them to a new level. We are seeing the benefits of musical play on a daily basis. We are fortunate to have you here. Love from the team at the James St. Pre School and Nursery.
The Early Learning Centre staff that we present workshops to, are loving your CDs and they give us wonderful feedback on how much the children love them. All the best for your continued work in the field of Early Childhood music.
Thank you very much to offer a wonderful music workshop for Chinese ECE educators in Auckland. We have learnt so much music teaching ideas for babies, toddlers, over 3 and special needs children. Most importantly, we learnt the ways that how you communicate and interact with children at different age groups in the music activities. I was hoping I could be a professional ECE music teacher like you and help many young children to build their musicality at the beginning of their life.
My name is Xiaolei Gong. I am a student teacher and I attended your music training course in Auckland on Saturday 14th May, I absolutely adore you.
That training helps me gain the knowledge about how wonderful music is, and introduces some ideas on helping and supporting children who have Autism.
I tried the parachute at my mat time with the children, playing the “Up and Down and Around and Around” song track 16 from your CD “MAGICAL MUSICAL PLAY” and they love it!!! I now believe music can help them to calm down.
Hi Julie, I attended your workshop in Auckland on Saturday. Just want to let you know it’s awesome and very practical. Thanks. I will definitely try what I learned from you with my pre-schoolers. I hope there are many more workshops to come. As I said to you before, you are truly amazing! To have such passion for what you are doing at your age is just so inspiring! Thanks Julie for an awesome workshop Xo
Yesterday’s workshop (The Art of Musical Play : A Summer Workshop) was a stunning time of exploring art and music through play. The day was infused with sheer joy and creativity, a refreshing reminder of the value of expressive play for adults and children alike. Julie Wylie is such an inspiration in her vast knowledge and the beautiful way she shares her love for music and people.
Congratulations dear Julie on 25 years of your music. I feel very privileged along with many, many people who have been blessed by your beautiful music, your knowledge and your big heart. All the best for a happy celebration today. I’m sure you are so proud of your achievements. Sending all my love.
What an amazing achievement Julie!!! We love and endorse your music constantly. You bring so much brilliance and love to children, families and educators. Thank you for your inspiration, music and friendship! Congratulations on your 25 years Celebration.
Great news, I already had some bean bag frogs so I tried out the Bean Bag Frog Song on Monday with great interactive results. So simple and effective. I sang it a-cappella like on the CD breaking it down nice and slow – all the kids and parents were right into it and straight away the kids the kids starting singing along with me. They also decided to make up their own ideas for what the frogs could do. Precious little minds at work…my favourite was balancing your frog on top of your head and now get ready to drop!
Thanks again and I really hope I also get to meet you one day.
Dearest Julie, Today you are celebrating 25 years of Julie Wylie Music in the Christchurch Transitional Cathedral with a Christmas Concert for Early Childhood. Even though we are in Canberra, Australia I want to acknowledge the profound influence your work has had on our work. Every time I go into an early childhood setting there you are on my shoulder as a major mentor, smiling that beaming smile and advocating on behalf of following the child and play-based learning, moment by moment making magical, musical connections. Spending time with you in the Champion Centre some time ago observing your work was a huge privilege. Hearing you articulate the basis of your own philosophy, your own story, your understanding of neuroscience and music, and your passion for music-making has been nothing short of inspiring. We stand on your shoulders to share the gift of music with many other children and their families here in Canberra. Today we honour your enormous contribution and carry your energy in our hearts and into every musical interaction. I hope today many other also acknowledge your enormous contribution in the field of early childhood musical play and music therapy.
Love, Emma & all at Rocking Horse Music, Canberra, Australia xxxxxxxxxxxx
Thank you so much for the amazing workshop you ran. I have heard so much positive feedback from it. I know the educators have been very inspired and motivated form what they gleaned from you. I was so sad to not have been able to make it myself.
Thank you so much Julie.
Yes, Yes, Yes! wise words from a master specialist in the field of early childhood music, Julie Wylie. Head on over to her page for much more inspiration and musical goodness R xx
Thank you Julie for a fun, engaging and inspiring Music workshop. It was fantastic to have you down in Queenstown. All our Educators enjoyed the workshop and have gained and developed their confidence in Music and how to implement it into their daily programmes with their children in their care. We look forward to having you back down here again next year. Many thanks.
Tonight I had the absolute joy of going to one of Julie‘s musical play workshops. SUCH a privilege to be able to soak up some of this wonderful lady’s immense knowledge and experience and to be inspired by her beautiful heart for children and passion for music. For anyone who has or works with children, get along to her next workshop or check out her website.
You have filled our lives with Magical Musical Play. We used your Pirate Song, the Balloon song, and “I’ve Got A Hat” song for Theo’s fourth birthday. The children couldn’t resist the giant balloon. Even the shy children became involved wearing funky hats dancing and enjoying the beautiful arrangements for trumpet and saxophone in the Hat Song. Thank you for giving us this amazing gift of music to enjoy with our children.
First of all I’m very thankful for the book (“Music, Learning and Your Child“) – love it from beginning to the end! You and your work are so inpirational! Where I actually got to know about you, was from music therapist Mercedes Pavlicevic book called “Groups in Music: Strategies from Music Therapy” where she appraised your work. I am also practicing music therapy and I am mainly focused on mums and their babies/toddlers and I’ve found your approach and work to be really encouraging. All the best to you and lots of inspiration and strength to carry on with what you are doing!
We are really excited about another great Term of Musical Play with you! Theo gets so much out of the classes so we’ve decided to book his preschool days around Music classes on Tuesday mornings.
We held a Native Bird theme party for Theo’s 3rd Birthday this year and used several of your songs, especially the 1-2-3-4-5 little singing birds from your newest album. Theo loves the Piwakawaka’s in our garden, they are so tame and playful!
Julie, I just wanted to tell you about our car trip last week. My almost one year old and I were listening to your CD ‘Rock a Bye Blues’and when the children on the CD laughed I could hear Elijah giggling too. Then when you were singing quietly pah pah pah i could hear a little quiet voice from the back seat copying. Well I was amused by now and as I listened when twinkle twinkle little star came on he even sang a few notes. I just couldn’t stop smiling and I thought Julie really has it right. Your music classes that we attend and the CD’s are just fabulous and aimed perfectly for babies and preschoolers. Lovely to see what a wonderful impact your music is having in enriching our sons life.
It is true that you can’t get enough of a good thing. My daughter fell in love with Julie Wylie’s Musical Play classes and at home she would “practise” with great gusto what she learned week to week. Her enjoyment of the songs, the actions that accompany them and the playing of instruments filled much of her time and from her bedroom we could hear her “being Julie”, in full voice!!
So naturally Julie’s DVD’s and CD’s were a must have for Clara-Jane!!
The Julie Wylie Musical Journeys DVD quickly became the most played DVD in our home. For Clara-Jane to be able to watch, participate and learn, whenever she wanted to, in the comfort of her own home, just added to her love of Julie’s programme.
The DVD is beautifully put together. Presented by the very tutors that the children already have a warm connection to, and featuring songs that are already familiar makes it highly accessible. The learning is in context and it beautifully complements the learning in class. Even the much-loved Oscar the clown, who opens and closes each class, is present. Clara-Jane just loves watching the children as they, so naturally, and in everyday locations doing everyday activities, find fun and pleasure in things musical.
I have to admit that I equally enjoy the DVD. It is engaging, encouraging, and undeniably catchy. Neither Clara-Jane nor I have tired of it and we have played it literally hundreds of times.
Perhaps the best testament to just how appealing the DVD is became clear when Clara-Jane was unwell following her immunizations and she took to her bed. The only thing she wanted was to do was watch “Julie on TV”, and even feeling under the weather she still sang the tunes!!
Julie’s CD’s also enjoy huge “play time” in our home and in our cars. It simply would not be Christmas without the “Sing Merry Christmas” CD which is a wonderful combination of children’s favourites, old and new, and rich traditional carols. To hear our daughter singing songs she had never heard before, adding her own (hilarious) actions and then creating “Christmas concerts” for us to enjoy is priceless. “When Santa Came Down The Chimney” is a favourite and like many of the songs, it captured her imagination. A great feature of Julie’s CD’s is the fact that many songs are sung by children, making them relevant and accessible for young listeners.
The joy Julie’s DVD’s and CD’s have brought into our daughter’s life is matched only by the learning they have fostered. Quite simply they bring Julie’s programme to life for any child, whether they are fortunate enough to attend Julie’s classes or not. They have played a significant role in Clara-Jane’s life and learning and they have given us huge pleasure as we watch her growing appreciation and love of music.
I am the Early Literacy librarian here at Palmerston North City library and I was wondering if it would be okay to use some of the songs of the Magical Musical Play CD?
I do singing, stories and activities with 2 age groups primarily, 0 – 2yrs and 2 – 4yrs. I was really happy listening to this CD as it got my ‘creative juices’ flowing as I imagined scenarios using your music.
I started taking my eldest child to Julie’s classes when she was 6 months old and are still attending now taking my third child, 8 years later. We love Julie’s warmth with children and her lessons are totally engaging with full parent and child involvement. The routine and structure of the lessons following the children’s interests and activities have taught me how to incorporate music and singing into our play at home. It’s neat to hear the children making up their own songs during their play and our youngest child’s first words were sung! The children have also loved dancing around the lounge to Julie’s CDs and they’re great for sing-a-longs in the car. Julie’s classes have also laid the foundation to help our eldest learn her first instruments, the viola and ukulele. We’re sure Julie’s classes have created a life long love of music for our children! Thank you Julie, we love coming to your classes!
Julie, I found your adorable CD, “Teddy Bears Tango” and would love to use it for our school’s Argentine Country Day of study. It is just what I have been looking for to fill the “music” station for the youngest students.
I’m a music teacher and LOVE your music and would love to use more of it.
I have been running Musical Parenting Groups in Auckland for 4 years, based on the model pioneered by Julie Wylie. The parents are quite clear that these groups are very different to any other music groups they have attended. The points they mention time and time again are these: the intimacy and interactivity of the small group, the enhanced bond established with their children, the musically interesting songs they learn to love and sing, and the wonderfully joyful and stimulating nature of the sessions. To use C.S. Lewis’s memorable phrase, both they and their children are “surprised by joy”.
It is such a pleasure to come back to Julie’s classes with my second baby, Jack, and see him fizz with delight through the magic of musical play. Julie has such a talent for tuning in with each child and enabling them to confidently take the lead in different activities. I feel so at home in the relaxed atmosphere of her classes and find them such a special bonding time with my children.
Julie has been wonderful to work with! With her years of experience and expertise she came up with a tune for a song within minutes of hearing about our project and it’s key messages! Julie composed lyrics that fitted our purpose perfectly- she knew what to repeat and emphasise. The tune is wonderfully catchy so children pick it up so quickly. Julie is passionate and skilled and we are so grateful to have had her working with us on our project.
