About the Workshop
Regulating, relationship based musical play builds self-esteem. It introduces children to speech and musical patterns, supporting concentration, language development, problem solving and creative movement. Music helps children to listen, to anticipate and follow step by step instructions. It supports sensory motor development. Play is the way we establish a sense of self, sympathy, humour, warmth and compassion. Musical play is a fertile ground for all learning. Therefore the earlier we introduce music, the more potential the child has for learning.
This five hour workshop is designed for parents and teachers of children 0-8 years including those with special needs. It will provide participants with a range of musical, sensory motor ideas and activities which nurture creativity, movement, spatial awareness, musicality and cognitive development in young children.
Music and movement strategies are designed to help the young child develop an understanding and appreciation of the elements of music in relation to their own body and their creative musical play. Participants will learn how music can be used to match children’s emotional and developmental levels. They will develop skills and music strategies that support all daily routines. Musical play can underpin the whole teaching curriculum. It promotes literacy, numeracy and science. Musical play is exciting and introduces children to the wonderful world of imaginative play.
