All learning takes place through movement. It is natural for children to move and dance. Their body is their first vital musical instrument. They can stamp feet, pat knees, hips, tummy, shoulders, head, clap their hands and hear the different body percussion sounds. moving and dancing to music develops listening, body awareness, co-ordination, directionality, language, beat and rhythmic skills, social skills, spatial awareness and sequencing skills. Weight, time, rhythmic flow, space and energy are inherent in all their movements.
Dance helps children to develop a better understanding of how their bodies move and relate to the space around them. Dancing within a group promotes co-operation and sharing, creative movement, self-expression, problem solving skills and an awareness and sensitivity to others.
