Singing together, listening to each other, Mummy and Reid enjoy musical play.

Singing together, listening to each other, Mummy and Reid enjoy musical play. Notice how Reid is almost matching the pitches his mother is singing and and adjusting his voice to match the changes in tempo of his mother’s voice. They are communicating musically. The meaning of their communication lies in the music of their sounds. There are changes in pitch, intonation, rhythm, tempo, and dynamics/loud and soft. Reid is responding to each new note his mother sings systematically and confidently. Notice his body movements, facial expressions and the way he is using his voice in the question answer play. The more they sing and play together, the more powerful their communication becomes. Reid is learning a range of meaningful sounds, long before he will be saying meaningful words. This repertoire of sounds , gestures and movement is developing rapidly through their conversations. A strong bond develops through this highly rewarding musical play.
